With Red Polka‘s edition, this week- “Saree Soiree- Loving Six Yards of Pure Grace and Elegance”, we thought how great it would be to share some saree love with you! So, we tell you the story of #100sareepact, hopefully it will make you crave for more sarees! Read on…
After a long bout of internet scouting frenzy we finally got in touch with these two ladies donning beautiful sarees, that too, too often- filmmaker Anju Maudgal Kadam and perfumier Ally Matthan of #100sareepact. Anju Maudgal Kadam is Founder and Director at WebTv.in. She comes with over twelve years of experience in the television and broadcast industry. Ally Matthan is a perfumer and has set up two brands Areev, a bath and skincare line, and Ally Matthan Fragrances
A simple pact between two friends turned into a wildfire internet initiative- the #100sareepact. Their story goes like this- the duo was discussing how to go about wearing sarees, and bringing back more elegant dressing in their wardrobes.
They say, “Like most Indian, urban women, we too had collected sarees over the years and they were lying unworn, unseen in cupboards and lofts because we had moved to more ‘convenient’ dressing in our office going, home running, playing multiple roles, lives. So with #100sareepact, we will wear our sarees a 100 times before the end of 2015.”
The idea behind #100sareepact is to celebrate six yards of pure grace and elegance with the Indian Saree. Anju and Ally took their love for sarees one step further, and shared their saree story on their Facebook walls. With this, more and more women started sharing their saree stories on their walls, and continued tagging the duo. This started trending the hashtag – #100sareepact on various social media platforms. Anju and Ally realized that these sarees are connecting a lot of women and making a thousand connections, and that they needed to take this ahead!
#100sareepact is a platform where you and I can share our saree stories with the world; for no one can become a story-teller unless there is an audience for the story to be told. The Ally and Anju duo will definitely wear one hundred sarees before 2015 ends. You can wear your saree as often as you like, repeats allowed (We do not want to carve a crater in our purses, right?)! This platform is not a showcase of how many sarees we have, but an opportunity to enjoy what we already have.
To join the #100sareepact and telling your saree story, all you need to do is-
Have a great saree soiree! 🙂
