Pretty, Posh and Playful Dresses for Small Girls With Nishita of Little Pixie

When it comes to dressing up small girls, it is always fun! Isn’t it just like a doll dress up game? However, designing these doll dresses for your princesses is not a child’s play. Meet Nishita Toprani of Little Pixie, her designs are inspired by things she loves- “a fresh bouquet of roses, a tray of colourful macaroons, or some vintage crockery!”

Tête-à-tête with Nishita:

1) Tell us about the dresses created by Little Pixie?

I was always curious about designing dresses for little girls, and decided to open a boutique. So in 2011, Little Pixie happened with an intention of creating stylish, unique, beautifully crafted and extremely comfortable clothing for little angels. Though I have been in women’s fashion for many years, Little Pixie started only when I made an experimental dress for a friend’s baby girl. I slowly grew very passionate about it, and turned it into a business. My only way forward!

2) What kind of detailing and designing goes in making such pretty pretty clothes for little girls?

Little Pixie clothes are ‘Pretty, Posh and Playful’! I draw design inspirations from everything I love most – a fresh bouquet of roses, a tray of colourful macaroons, or some vintage crockery! Almost everything inspires me to make beautiful, and one of a kind pieces for little girls. Many of my designs are also influenced by a wonderful mix of Victorian, Parisian and Oriental art.

While the focus is always on creating beautiful and exceptional designs, comfort and durability is top priority. That is why only the best quality of fabric is used (which is almost always cotton based). Finishing and detailing is also very important; every dress is as special as its little wearer. Little girls should feel like princesses in Little Pixie dresses.

Little Pixie makes a very small quantity of each design, every piece is constructed with absolute care, and offer exclusivity to the customers.

3) How can one style a dress for little girls?

  • Make sure your girls are cool and comfortable. She wants to jump around, twirl and play with her friends, and she will have so much more fun if she is wearing something soft and light, as opposed to something itchy and sticky, that compromises her comfort and mobility. Cotton or cotton based dresses are recommended for the summer.
  • Soft pastel colours like lemon yellow, mint, aqua blue, peach sorbet, etc. always look fresh and beautiful on little girls, and work very well in the hot weather.
  • While most moms like styling their girls’ hair open and loose for a party, I recommend sweeping it up in a stylish ballet bun that can be held together with floral clips. Or opt for braids that are adorned with little pins and clips, they look beautiful for longer hair. This will keep the hair off her face and neck, and keeps tangles at bay.
  • Go for open footwear for little girls in summers. While socks do look pretty with a party dress, it’s just too hot for extra layers.
  • In terms of jewelry, team summer dresses with a light pearl necklace, to keep it simple but to also add a touch of glam to the ensemble; after all your girls are little princesses!
