Step Aside Peplum, the Kediya Top is here to Rule

For a while it seemed like peplum was the answer to all of our trend problems. However, the obsession with all things peplum should slowly wear off. If you like the look of this ladylike trend, replace your peplum tops with Kediya tops this season.

Our Kediya obsession started when we spotted a sun-kissed yellow Kediya top at OMO. Then we also came across a lot of Kediya cut tops in the new collection by Sampada. This only convinced us further that Kediya is here to rock and roll. It could be to do with India’s recent love affair with Gujarat.

What is a Kediya Top?

The kediya dhoti is the traditional dance costume for men in western and northern Gujarat, and the traditional dress of the Kutch shepherds. The top of the outfit has the basic silhouette of a frock with exaggerated pleats below the bust line. Worn by men in the state, this season the kediya has a new home and a newer form made to measure for women. The bright colourful top has been deconstructed, and stripped of its colour. The shape of this top is androgynous, making it a perfect unisexual piece of garment.

Here are 5 ways you can wear a kediya top-

1) With Palazzos

The kediya and the palazzos are known for their loose flow and comfortable cuts. When you mix and match two trends, you’re sure to come up with a new uber cool trend all together. Pick a short kediya to go with your palazzos to look taller.
