8 Tips to Dress like a Boss

You know the old saying: “Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have.”

Yet how many times have you faced this choice: buy a nice, work-appropriate blazer, or buy something more fun, like a cocktail dress? Most of the time, the dress will win, right?

But let’s face it: there are about 260 work days in the year. Your work wardrobe is WAY more important than your weekend clothes. Dressing well at work can help make a good impression and might even help you get your next promotion. So here are 8 Fashion Tips for you to soar high in the professional game!

1) The Jacket

Well cut jackets can immediately give a feeling of you being in a higher position than someone wearing casuals or someone who is a fresher, invest in a good conservative coat if you’re not too experimental. Black is the workhorse, at least have one formal black jacket. Avoid double-breasted jackets (which can make women look boxy, particularly if they’re busty), but don’t shy away from a jacket with an interesting collar or feature. Jackets are versatile- you can wear one on a skirt ensemble or a dress, not just trousers and a blouse!

2) The Desk to Drink Dress

While we won’t deny the fact that we just told you that there are more workdays than weekends, but then there are days when you need some #MidWeekMotivation or those evenings when you would prefer to step out for dinner than a business meeting. For such days pick a lovely little dress that would be perfect for work or a date! ‘A’ line dresses are perfect for this one reason!

3) The Cropped Pants

It is time to show off some ankles! Why are we so obsessed with ankle-length pants? Here’s why- a well-fitting pair with a touch of Lycra in a basic colour can be worn everywhere. Everywhere. Go ahead and think of a scenario you can’t wear them to. The trick to a perfect formal cropped pant is to pay attention to fit. Look for slim cut pants if the hem isn’t tapered. Use heels with shorter pairs and your best posture for a relaxed cut.

 4) The classic White Blouse

The classic white blouse is a timeless piece and one that can be found at every price point. Pick a feminine blouse, one with bows; Also ruffled tops are frugally fashionable. This season ruffles are a big trend but may be out by next winter.

5) The Pencil Skirt

It is time for women with an hourglass figure to have fun while they are doing what they do, be a boss! Capturing your curvy silhouette is much more attractive and mysterious. A pencil skirt is clingy in all the right places, but allows you to breathe and move around more easily. A loose fitting top and a blazer is the perfect way to complete your pencil skirt ensemble, whether you are on your way to an important business meeting or going to work.

6) The Hint of Make-up

Flawless skin always wins, wear some concealer and/ or a BB cream for your skin to look great while it still can breathe. Subtly enhance your eyes, Thick mascara and a nude eye shadow is all that it requires to complete a formal look. Nudes are your best stylists, go for nude pinks or pick colours inspired by coffee. And, if you know how to wear a red lipstick like a boss, go for it, nothing can stop you further!

Nail art lovers, glitter nails have no place in an office setting! The most important thing is to make sure your nails are neat and manicured. Light pinks, matts and neutrals are no-brainers.

7) The Right Accessories

Jewelry (rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, watches ) are all typically acceptable, but be careful of too much or too large pieces. Pierced ears are almost universally OK, not generally other body piercings should not be visible. Scarves, belts, headbands, hair accessories (such as barrettes) add a fine touch to your overall ensemble. Make sure you carry the right bag, you can’t walk in with a small sling, a good shoulder bag or a well cut tote works wonders while carrying your essential right where they belong.

8) The Pointy High Heels

Every woman needs a pair of pointy toe high heels, even if she favors sneakers or flats more. There are a number of reasons why women enjoy wearing heels. Some women feel more confident when wearing heels, or like the attention it gets them. Others enjoy how heels flatter their bodies by making them appear more slender. Heels accentuate your leg and almost always complete a power-ensemble.
