The top current home décor design trends are all about introducing touches of luxury, color and texture to living spaces. Red Polka tells you how you can give fine detailing and happy touches to your house.
1) The Deep Blues
From pale ice blue to deep indigo, blue coloured home decor is having a moment in home décor. Beautiful indigos work with many different design styles. Much of the color inspiration for 2015 is drawn from nature making designs feel comfortable and natural.
(If you like neutrals and wouldn’t want to go bold with blue, try Greige, it is a new colour in the grayish brown palette.)
Cheat- it won’t always be possible to paint your walls blue. So, the easy way to infuse the colour in your décor is to either throw some blue cushions on your sectionals, or paint a chair blue, or bring in some Jaipur blue pottery.
2) Old Table Paired Mod Seats
A little odd to think, but this arrangement of old vintage tables with mod seating is trending. Maybe by pairing two things that don’t seem to go together, you are actually emphasizing the best qualities of both. Raw and rustic woodwork will give that much-needed warm feel to your décor. The elegance of history, paired with modern design is a treat.
Reclaimed wood and huge accents made of drift wood are in vogue too.
Cheat- Mod seating gives a total urban-chic look to a house. You can introduce some mod chairs with very comfortable seating even in your study, or balcony.
3) Libraries as Decor
It’s always soothing to be surrounded by books. And for the same reason, libraries are now making a comeback, more as a décor idea. A good shelf filled with classics will always make for a great textured background.
Unusual library wallpapers are making a round in the markets for this purpose alone. We would prefer books to wallpapers, wouldn’t we?
Cheat- If you have books locked-up in closed a cupboard/shelf/study, now is the time to let those wisdom pages breathe. You can either give your shelves some glass doors, or deck the books on tables with cool book-ends.
4) Organic Geometry
There is something very gorgeous about Geometry. If you are over chevrons, hexagons and honeycomb shapes are hot-all in the form of chairs, cushions, tiles, and wallpaper. The pattern feels both modern and organic at the same time.
Cheat- While honey comb patterns are in vogue, it is not necessary you have to try the organic colours as well. Hexagons in urban colours or pastels look great. Hexagonal chair rests, cushions, platters are totally trendy.
5) Hand-Painted Details
The whole fad of hand-painting, ‘upcycling’ is trending when it comes to home décor. The warmth that handicraft items bring into a house, and the quirk that ‘upcycled’ décor brings into a house is the essence of this trend.
Cheat- Get your hands on those vintage/liquor bottles, mason jars, and splash a lot of colour onto them, or turn one of your walls into a blackboard- and get doodling.
6) The Industrial Chic
Industrial Chic blends the urban edge of utilitarian design with the warmth of aged woods and worn textures. Industrial style lighting in aged iron and metals, accented by weathered woods and soft neutral surfaces give that edgy-grunge look to a home. The trend expands and evolves with metallic finishes primarily in gold but lots of silver, bronze, and pewter.
Cheat- Pick up lighting fixtures, stools, wrought iron chairs from factory sales. For the grunge look, paint your wire in the shades of copper. Works best for your bathroom, work-station, and entrance.
Break the Rules
Not always would you want to follow a particular trend, and it would not even be practical to do so. Turning your house into a home needs those happy personal touches, let your home breathe your air, let it reflect your personality. Introduce certain nuances of elegance to your home decor to give it a look that you would like. It’s all about loving you home, and making it the best place in the world.
